Rolesville is making strides with its new track and field club. Rolesville Athletic Academy participated in their first track meet Saturday, May 2, 2015. The team competed in the Triangle Champions Challenge in Durham at Hillside High School. There were at least twelve different teams and several hundred participants present.
Runners for Rolesville Athletic Academy competed in events such as the 1500 meter run, 100 meter dash, long jump, 400 meter race and more. In all, five youth members came home with seven different medals for placing in the top three of their events and three ribbons for placing in the top six. Six youth members placed in the top twenty of their events.
RAA has since competed in several additional meets and athletes are continuing to brand themselves by placing top in their events. The team is currently preparing for the 2015 USATF Junior Olympic State Championships.
Rolesville Athletic Academy is a recently-developed track club established under the guidelines of the USATF (United States Association of Track & Field). This is the governing body for track and field in the U.S., which the team is an organizational member. Coach Michael Booth is Rolesville Athletic Academy’s athletic director. He has multiple years coaching track & field, was a collegiate runner for North Carolina Central University, and is Rolesville High School’s head indoor/outdoor track and field coach.
