Serious Leak to Delay Opening of Holding Park Pool

May 2016

Holding Park Pool, 133 W. Owen Ave., will not open Memorial Day weekend as planned because of a serious leak.

Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources staff first became aware of the issue while performing routine maintenance in preparation for the pool’s opening.

The swimming pool has been drained to allow a contractor to determine the leak’s cause and make the necessary repairs.

The pool was scheduled to open for the 2016 season on Saturday, May 28, but officials say it may be early to mid-July before the leak is repaired and the pool is filled.

Built in the early 1940s, Holding Park Pool is one of the area’s largest outdoor public swimming pools. The 50-meter pool is typically open during the summer months and offers swimming to the general public, as well as water aerobics, swim lessons, lap swim times, and parent/toddler swim times.
