3 Employee Excellence Award winners named.
At the Board of Education meeting held February 21, 2017, the Wake County School System honored 13 of its employees with Excellence awards. Among those were Judith Yvonne King, a teacher at Wake Forest Elementary, and Connie Tharrington, the media specialist at East Wake Middle.


New Principals Appointed.
Also at the Feb. 21 meeting, the Board of Education appointed Christopher Bradford, assistant principal at Green Hope High, to principal at Wake Forest Middle. At the March 21 meeting, the board appointed Jack Zellmer, assistant principal at Wakefield Elementary, to principal at Wendell Elementary.


2017-2018 Teacher of the Year semifinalists announced.
Every spring, WCPSS honors some of the many outstanding educators in the district through its Teacher of the Year recognition program. Congratulations to these educators who are among the 27 semifinalists:

Heather Collins, Heritage Elementary
Christa Hayden, Wakefield High
Angela Joyner, Zebulon Magnet Elementary
Lauren Miron, Rolesville Middle
Katherine Russell, Wendell Middle
Erin Van Sickle, Wake Forest Middle

The semifinalists were recognized at the March 7 Board of Education meeting. The 13 finalists will be announced in early April. The winner will be named at a special celebration on May 8 at the Raleigh Convention Center.


Rolesville High Sophomore wins scholarship to leadership forum.
Keith Clements,
sophomore honor student at Rolesville High School and captain of the junior varsity lacrosse team, has been invited to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum in Engineering & Technology this summer. The forum is scheduled to be held in July at Georgia Tech. Keith was awarded a $750 scholarship by the university, but he still needs to raise $3,200 to cover transportation and other costs.
