What’s Buzzin’ @ RMS – September 2017

Rolesville Middle School Rams—Kinea Epps • September 2017

Hello, RMS Families!

The school year is in full swing! By now you and your student have settled into a routine. I’d like to share a few tips to help you and your student stay on track.

First, be sure you’ve marked your calendars for report cards. Report cards for track 1 will go home on September 8 and for tracks 2, 3, and 4 on September 29. Before report cards go home, be sure to check in with your student about any missing assignments. It’s also a good idea to check PowerSchool each week for any changes to your student’s grades. This is also a good time to reach out to teachers and have conversations about your child’s learning.

Middle school can be an adjustment, regardless of the grade level. The website www.parenttoolkit.com says parent-teacher conferences can be good opportunities to learn your child’s strengths and weaknesses in each academic subject, learn about homework expectations and also learn any social and emotional concerns. You can request a conference with your child’s teachers before there is a concern.

I recently ran across an article from the website www.parentco.com that listed 30 questions to ask your child beyond “How was your day?” I found a few that were interesting that I’d like to share: “What challenged you today?” “What was one thing you did that was helpful today?” and “What new fact did you learn today?” Try a few of these with your child.

I’ve shared with you before about our clubs, and recently we held two club fairs for students to learn more about what we have to offer. Just to name a few, students can participate in student council, mock trial, coding, Upstanders’ Alliance, Spanish and writing clubs. Check out the RMS website at rolesvillems.wcpss.net and click under Activities. Be sure to ask your child about the club fair and which club they would be interested in joining. Clubs are beginning soon!

And right underneath the club link, is a link for student recognition. We pride ourselves on having many opportunities to recognize students.

Just around the corner will be our first sporting events of the season. First up will be soccer and volleyball on September 19 and football on September 20. Let’s cheer on our RAMS!!!
