“Writing the College Essay” Workshop Offered This Fall

— September 2017

A two-day writing workshop on how to write the college essay will be offered three times this fall by the Wake County Public School System. It is recommended for any student in need of support writing a college essay, scholarship application or common application response and is open to students of all levels and abilities. The teacher-led workshop guides students through the process of identifying their strengths, crafting a strong introduction, avoiding common pitfalls and, of course, how to write a focused, thoughtful, edited response that gets them noticed.

Writing a well-crafted, confident response takes time, revision and support. That’s why in addition to five hours of classroom instruction each student also receives two weeks of follow-up support and professional editing assistance via Google Docs following successful completion of the course. Students will leave this course with a college essay that not only gets them noticed but one they can be proud of. Note: Laptop required for class.

The class is offered at the following high schools: Wake Forest on 9/19 – 9/21; Millbrook on 10/16 – 10/18; and Leesville on 11/13 – 11/16. Classes run from 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. each session and cost $175.
