Town Manager Abruptly Resigns from Post

In a sudden move, Rolesville Town Manager, Matthew Livingston resigned from his position, which he held for 7 years. Hired in 2002, Livingston was Rolesville’s second town manager. Winter HEStival at Heritage Elementary

On Friday, February 5, despite the cold and heavy rain along with near freezing temperatures, hundreds of Heritage Elementary School students and parents attended the annual Winter HEStival. 	Annual Appreciation Dinner at Rolesville Fire Department A few hundred people gathered January 9 at 6:00 p.m. for an evening of camaraderie at the Rolesville Fire Station. Identity Theft Cases are on the Rise Knowing yourself is not hard. What is hard is explaining that you are who you say, and someone else pretended to be you and stole your identity. It is not uncommon to find your name on lists you never took part in, and occasionally find a charge on your credit card bill that is not yours. Things like that happen quite a bit. Dangerous Cold Gripping Our State

Several rounds of arctic air plunging south into all the way to the Gulf of Mexico have turned most of the nation and North Carolina into a virtual ice box. While the temperatures themselves are not setting records, the longevity of the cold snap with overnight lows in the teens to lower 20s and daytime highs only in the 30s is unusual. In fact the average daily temperature has remained below freezing since January 2nd and will remain below freezing through the weekend and early next week. <more>

	Rolesville: Past, Present and Future We’ve sung our “Auld Lang Sine’s,” and we have packed away the holiday decorations (or at least have hidden them away until “someone” takes them back to storage). With the New Year now under way, it is now time to get back to the business of growing the town of Rolesville. 	And Justice for Owls At 11:00 a.m. on October 27, a crime was committed against wildlife. Although not legally a crime, it was at least a moral one. 	100 Minutes or $100 “Your parents would rather have 100 minutes than $100,” says Doris Grissett of The Crossings at Heritage in Wake Forest. At age 79, Grissett has developed a plan for adult children who are caregivers for their parents. The basic premise is the fact that there is a need for both the elderly parent and caregiver to have a better understanding of one another. It provides guidelines and experiences that every caregiver and senior is challenged with on a daily basis. 	The Mitten Tree According to Tricia Platania, Rolesville Elementary Guidance Counselor, the children at the school have a lot to brag about. “When we first put up our charity tree, you could see every green pine needle. 	Rolesville Tree Lighting The Town of Rolesville kicked off the 2009 holiday season with the lighting of the town’s official Christmas tree at Main Street Park, December 7 at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Randy Carter honored the audience with a blessing and the Rolesville Community Church provided a choir who sang appropriate holiday music. Slow Down in Fast Town Like many of us, I grew up hearing about small towns and speed-traps. My father would complain as we went from 55 mph down to 25 mph for the two miles before and after a small town. We would expect a country-boy cop to pull behind us and give us a ticket, then whisk us to the judge, usually his brother-in-law, and give us a steep fine. Small towns were supposed to do this as part of their main funding. At least that was what I thought when I was young. <Full Story>

Board members were confronted with 70 people who were signed up to discuss an issue that is now causing a ruckus. Trimming the holiday waistline With the cold weather, comfort foods like soups, stews, and heavier fare often take the place of the lighter summer meals like salads and fruits. Couple this with the fact that many of us exercise less in the winter months while we participate in a number of social events that feature scrumptious foods. As winter arrives be sure to follow good safety measures When seasons change, so do some of the safety measures that we practice on a daily basis. Several measures do not change. For example, Lt. Matt Anderson of the Rolesville Police Department reminds us not to leave valuables in the car and to be aware, while shopping, if anyone is watching us. “Keep your valuables safe and your home locked,” Anderson says. “Walk around and write down serial numbers of any items so, if stolen, they can be tracked.” Anderson also suggests walking through the house with a camera or cell phone and keeping records using those items. The Rolesville Police Department offers free surveys for valuables in the home when an officer is available. “Meantime, in an emergency, call 911, which will give you Raleigh Communications. Wake County couple up for National Conservation Award By the time this issue hits the streets, the voting for the 2010 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year will be completed. More Than Man’s Best Friend When first viewing a program designed to promote “paws”-itive interaction, offered by Friends of the Library at Wake Forest, the handlers and dogs headed to Fox Elementary School. The program is being held there to develop skills in children who have difficulty reading, whether they are slow learners, challenged, autistic, or exhibit stress-related problems. “We combine the highest degree of technology,” says Media Specialist, Nancy Solum. <Full Story>
Seeing eye dogs help the community More than 50 years ago, Guiding Eyes for the Blind was founded to help the blind and visually impaired men and women. Guiding Eyes has become one of the major guide dog schools in the world, graduating more than 7,000 dog teams. <Full Story>
